Kel-Suu formed when landslides dammed the Kurumduk river. The result is a narrow, winding lake of startling colour, framed by cliffs several hundred metres high.

The lake is in the border zone near China, so a permit is required. The last part of the journey is on foot or horseback, which keeps visitor numbers low.

Best season

July to September. The water level changes from year to year, and the road can close after heavy rain.
