Kyrgyz-Uz Travel

Song-Kol lies on a high plateau ringed by gentle ridges. From mid-June until early September the shores fill with yurts, horses and flocks of sheep brought up from the valleys for the summer grass.

There are no shops or villages here — just the families who host travellers in their camps. Days are bright and windy, nights are cold and the sky is full of stars.

How to get there

From Naryn it is about four hours by car over the Moldo-Ashuu pass. The road is gravel and usually open from June to September.
